A World Above by iamgoatman A World Above by iamgoatman
Today has been a beautiful day, in places. Firstly went on a trip with my dad to go take photographs while he went and took care of other matters. We both were surprised to see that the fog that sometimes lingers in the valley below was still there by mid afternoon, as it normally is all gone in the early hours of the morning. So we're driving and gradually lowered into the valley mist and it was a totally different world from above. No sun, just very thick fog leaving the entire place surrounded in this dismal grey feeling.
On our way back i walked back along our lane to take some more shots and I saw this amazing view of the fog engulfing the valley.

3 shots merged to correctly expose all the detail.
Photoshop for: Curves, levels, photo filter, sharpening, crop and border.

Hope you all like it.

I love the sense of texture. I love the pallette used. Was most of the color added, or captured? Good example of using composition to showcase something captivating.

Ewe did a goad job sheparding this pastoral image to DA.

Great combinations here - rolling fog, descending sun casting shadows past tree-lined ridge.

I feel sheepish loading my comments with puns.

Truly a nice shot!

I don't know why, but I really like this piece. From the moment I saw it on the thumbshare forum I knew I was going to favorite it. Something about the colors and the scale of everything just grabs me.

Very nice work, :+fav:!

Wow...sheeps  It's an HDR-Image right. Perhaps it would come out better when you would crop a bit from the top.
iamgoatman Featured By Owner Jan 11, 2007
Thanks for the comment. This is a cropped version of the original that contained a lot more sky, i like it how it is and a lower crop would unbalance the composition :)

I love this picture. =) All I can say is its enchanting. It makes me want to go to Wales and wander around a bit. The farmers might get upset that some American is scaring off all their sheep though.

Absolutely wonderfull and unique moment. I love the silhouettes of the animals (I guess sheeps) the misty air and the long shadows of the trees. Absolutely unique atmopsphere. I'm interested in a lower view, maybe with the fog surrounding you...

Amazing shot(s), says you used a 20D to take the shot, how high res is that? Because there are some awesome smaller pictures in there if you crop certain things out, like the left side and the sheep in the foreground... nothing wrong the sheep, actually I rather like them. But like I was saying you could get a ton of images out of this... I fav'ed it.

Oh, is that a natural 6 point starburst the sun is doing or did you use a filter?
iamgoatman Featured By Owner Dec 22, 2006
Thank you.

I Normally shoot at max res so the original image could have been cropped down to a lot smaller sizes. This originally was a lot larger, with more sky and grass so i cropped it down to this version.

And yes, the sun star is natural :)
